Details

On the ground floor we have a large kitchen/dining room and separate cosy lounge with patio doors to the front and rear window and Smart TV with Freesat.  There is also a small rear boot room and WC.  The whole of the ground floor has a mixture of either high quality, non slip vinyl or tile flooring.  To the first floor we have three bedrooms (king, double and single) with super comfortable beds.  The larger bedrooms now also have 32 inch Freesat Smart TVs! There is also a bathroom (with bath and shower over) and separate WC.  We have been careful to keep as many original features as possible though, so both large bedrooms still have their original (although now non functional) cast iron fireplaces, wooden doors and original door furniture.

Travelling with young children?

We provide a travel cot (with additional mattress), high chair, baby gate*, potty and toddler toilet seat, so that you don't have to try to cram them all into the car (more room for shoes!) The only thing that we don't provide is the travel cot bed linen but we know that you prefer to bring your own anyway.

Wanting to treat your dog to a few days at the seaside?

We'd love to welcome your little woofers free of charge (numbers dependent upon size and age). Dogs aren't allowed to be left by themselves though and we ask that they only explore the ground floor too.

Bringing the car?

We have two of the most rare comodities in Whitby, our own private driveway, which is big enough for two average sized cars (with ample on street parking too) and a 7kw 32a EV charging point!

* We have two types of baby gate, one is a Retract-a-Gate one, which is situated on the bottom of the stairs and the other is a home made one, to cover an awkward space on the first floor landing.  It is lightweight but strong but obviously it has not been tested to any British Standard, so please only use at your own risk.

Guestbook

We'd love to hear about your experiences here at The Castle House!

The reviews outlined below have been brought together for you from various different review and booking sites throughout the internet.  Their point of origin will be attached to them, should you want to go to those sites to check we're not fibbing! lol

We would hate to think that you'd ever book via those sites though; they charge for 'extras' you don't need and provide the same level of booking security that you'd have by booking with us direct - so why pay more for the same holiday?  We'd rather you spent what you save (in some cases several hundred pounds!) in our local pubs, shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, museums or attractions (or put it towards those shoes or power tools you've had your eye on!).

Fab stay at the cottage .Spotlessly clean ,excellent facilities for human guests and doggie guests

Our 2nd stay at castle house, and we loved it... home from home , everything was perfect 🥰 will definitely be back xx — Debbie , 24 Sep 2023
We have recently had a fabulous stay in this gorgeous house. It was like a home from home. Everything you need for a relaxing stay in Whitby and very well thought out. The secure enclosed garden was great for our pooches, and we loved sitting outside enjoying the lovely weather we had. Near enough to venture into Whitby, and lots of places nearby to visit. We will be back! — Susan Smith, 16 Sep 2023
We had a lovely stay with our four girls. The cottage is lovely with spacious rooms and where every need was catered for. Beautiful little garden which was perfect to sit out in to enjoy the beautiful weather we had. The girls thoroughly enjoyed their stay too — Trudy Piper, 16 Sep 2023

Another Great Stay

Yet another lovely stay at Castle House. It has everything you could want. Lovely comfy beds, enclosed garden, dog welcoming and a very attentive owner. Great base to see all the lovely villages round about and no problem parking as private drive that accomodates two medium size cars. Great pub and Lidl close by. Lovely walk into Whitby on the prom. Never fails to please. Heres to my next visit which will be the eighth. Highly recommend.

Fantastis little house. Nice layout and secure garden. Really comfy beds . Great base to explore Whitby from. We just parked up for the week and walked ,with the dogs everywhere. Along the beach to Sandsend. Over the viaduct along the Cinder track. Along the seafront into the town and up to the Abbey. Just lots to explore. Always being able to look forward to a relaxing evening in the Castle house.

Fantastic holiday cottage

Fantastic home from home. The house was spotless and the garden dog and child friendly. Off street parking bonus... Nichola was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for her. Dog ID tags fantastic Idea

We had the most wonderful stay at your little cottage 3rd July to 7th July. It was ideally placed for walking to Whitby and just out of town from the seaside. Visited Robin Hoods Bay. A must to see. We also went to Scarborough. A lovely seaside town. We were made very welcome by Nichola and Dave. All the little extras including dog bags, treats, extra leads ,water bowls. The garden is fully enclosed and treat to enjoy our bottle of wine which was waiting for us ready chilled
We couldn't wish for more. Thanks Nichola and Dave

What a fabulous base for a trip to North Yorkshire. Whitby is very picturesque and home to lots of different activities. Scarborough and Robin Hood's Bay are close and we loved the market town of Gisborough. Castle House is close enough to walk into Whitby but far enough away from the centre to avoid the crowds. Nichola provided everything we needed and some things we didn't know we needed! It was cosy and warm, very comfortable and with an interesting selection of books on the shelves. Communication before and during our stay was excellent. If you have an EV, the home charger saves queuing at the only rapid in town — Heather de la Croix, 03 May 2023
Comfortable, convenient and quirky

We had a great stay in Whitby, based at Castle House. Communication with the owner was excellent all through the process and a small issue was immediately dealt with. The rooms were comfortable, warm and very clean. Everything we needed was there, and tea/coffee on arrival was a lovely touch. The Lidl is just a short walk away. The beds were all very comfy with lovely white bedding that invited you in. There is a toilet upstairs and downstairs which is very convenient (!) The car charger on the drive is very handy and removed all possible 'range anxiety ' that you might have. We'd definitely stay there again if we go back to the area

Amazing stay!

The Castle House has absolutely everything to make you feel so at home. Perfectly located with private parking and just a nice 25 min stroll to the town centre. We took our 2 pugs with us and even they were catered for with bowls, leads, towels and treats! Nichola provided lots of useful information even down to local pubs and restaurants and walking directions. Highly recommend!

Home From Home

Its in the title! Love this place. It has everything you need. Im on maybe my seventh or eigth visit. Its own private drive, a godsend that allows to to explore the surrounding villages without thinking about parking on your return, a secure rear garden which is perfect for my boy who is welcomed not just 'dog friendly', and a lovely homely feel inside. Just back from my usual September stay which was my third this year. I should be saying dont book as it reduces my chance of staying but i wouldnt want to deprive anyone of the pleasure so check it out 😍 Lesley and Krakken

Castle House

Just returned from our second stay at Castle House. Situated on one of the main roads leading into Whitby opposite Sneaton Castle gates. Not in the town, but near enough. The terraced house is spotless and believe me, it will have everything you need, even an electric charging point for the car. The beds are comfortable with lovely white sheets. The bathroom has a bath with a shower and a separate toilet and a second toilet downstairs which is very handy. There is a Lidl a few minutes walk away (freshly baked rolls every day) There are lots of lovely places to eat and visit in and around Whitby. A lot of thought has gone into this very desirable property. Nicola is very helpful, and always available should you have a problem.

Wonderful Whitby Week

We stayed at the Castle House for one wonderful week. Just five minutes down the road on our first walk we came upon the amazing view over the golf course and down to the beach. The sun was going down and it felt like paradise to two long standing friends and their respective furry pals playing at the water’s edge. The property is so well located and we spent the week in more stunning locations, Whitby, Sandsend, Staithes, Robins Hood Bay etc, always coming home to the little sun trap that is the garden at Castle House. The house and garden were perfect and everything has been thought of to make it a real home from home which I would definitely recommend

Perfect dog friendly accommodation, close to all amenities

First time we have actually stayed in Whitby and this lovely cottage came very highly recommended by a good friend who has stayed here on many occasions, I can now see why my friend keeps returning, situated directly opposite Sneaton Castle gates on a main but not too busy road and just a 20 minute walk into Whitby, all our holidays have to be planned around our dog and this couldn’t have been any more dog friendly even down to “holiday tags” for their collar in case they get lost, the house is spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean, the complimentary wine, milk & teabags were a welcome touch too, also a big plus was the immaculate enclosed rear garden, also off road parking and a charger for electric cars if needed, so much thought has gone in to this accommodation to make it a very desirable holiday let, Nichola was at the end of the phone if needed and was more than helpful to us. We have already booked for next year 👍👍

We really enjoyed our stay at The Castle House during Easter 2022. It was everything we’ve come to expect from a Greenwood Holiday Cottage. Although situated on the edge of town, the property has a rare Whitby commodity, parking space! It’s close to the Park & Ride anyway or a lovely walk into town. The house itself is comfortable & a little quirky, ideal for a small family. — Andy Hoy, 21 Apr 2022
We would highly recommend the Castle House, we had a lovely weekend there recently. The house has everything you could possibly need, it was spotlessly clean and the most dog friendly place we have stayed at. The location is great, lovely places to eat and drink nearby, bakery at Lidl very close and an easy walk to the town. Nicola was so helpful with advice and information, much appreciated. We really hope to stay with you again! — Christine Johnson, 05 Feb 2022

The owner was very helpful with advice and information, much appreciated. We’d highly recommend this property, it’s in a great location for the town and for countryside walks. Lots of places locally to eat and drink, we hope to visit again. Off road parking too!

Wonderful house in a fantastic location and with excellent hosts.

Just come back from a fantastic week at The Castle House. The property is well situated for both days out in Whitby and exploring the wider area. The facilities are fantastic and the owners were extremely helpful when we had any questions or requests (like surprising my wife with flowers & chocolates). Can't recommend highly enough & hoping to go back in the future.

Lovely little house in a great location; far enough away from the busyness, but a short walk into it. Very clean accommodation and well kitted out. We had a very comfortable stay. Nichola was a great host both pre & post arrival. We will definitely return. — Colin MacDonald, 07 Sep 2021
Quiet gem of a house

Nichola's Castle House in Whitby, is a great place to stay. Easy to find and so central without being in the centre of town. Its just a 10/15 minute walk from West Cliff and the dogfriendly part of the beach ( we thought it was the best bit - flat and sandy with plenty of waves to jump ) !5 minutes in a slightly different direction takes you in to the town centre. The house itself is fully equipped with everything you could need ( as well as parking which seems to be a big bonus in Whitby ) and a wonderful quiet and enclosed garden, where all you hear is birdsong ! The house was very comfy, spotlessly clean and the Dogs enjoyed it too ! Lots of friendly communication with Nichola beforehand as well as a very handy list of places to eat and drink so was very easy to find the dogfriendly options. Recommend the Rusty Shears if you like your gin !

Whitby Gem

Well what can I say…..what an amazing week we had at The Castle House Whitby. From booking to our stay Nichola was fantastic. We originally booked for June 2020 but due to the restrictions we had to move our week to 2021 but that was never a problem as Nichola was very happy to do so. The house itself was very clean and tidy offering all the amenities you require for your stay and with the bonus of off street parking. All 3 bedrooms had brilliant white bedding and very comfortable beds. Most evenings we would sit in the lovely garden watching and listening to the birds. Whitby itself is roughly a 25 minute walk and we also walked to Sandsend which was about 45 minutes. There is a Lidl just around the corner if you forget anything or need to stock up on anything. All in all we had a fantastic week at The Castle House and would definitely return in the future. Thanks again Nichola.

Really nice and homely house with all necessary comforts. Whitby is all that a beach pet friendly holiday should be. Nicola is a great host with nothing left to chance. When we decide to return to whitby we will definitely book again. Must also mention the lovely friendly neighbours next door.

Home from home

We've just had a fabulous week at this dog friendly house. The location is ideal, a nice walk down to the beach for the dogs but far enough from the town that you don't get the noise. The house itself is really well maintained, good quality furniture and really comfortable. Even the dogs are catered for with spare bowls, lead, towel, toys and treats all left by the owner Nichola. Whitby is a great base for exploring the coast and surrounding moors. Walking the dogs along the beach from Whitby to Sandsend was lovely and if you're after a forest walk you can't beat May Beck and Falling Foss. Whitby is somewhere we've been to before and will be visiting again.

The house was easy to find, very clean and very comfortable. It was far enough from Whitby to walk in, and far enough out of Whitby to avoid the noise of the crowds (there was a Dracula/Goff weekend on when we went and the pubs were full)! We had cold but sunny weather, except when we were leaving when it hailed! Lidl and Spar were just down the road, very convenient.

Excellent pet-friendly cottage.

The cottage is well placed to explore the local beaches and country side. The walking is particularly good with many spectacular cliff top walks. It was especially good for us because we have three very active spaniels and so many places will allow only one or two dogs. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wishes to take their pet on holiday with them. There is ample parking for even a large car at the front and a secure garden at the rear. The cottage contains all the amenities that you could reasonably want. Nichola, the owner, is on the ball and makes sure that you are happy with your experience.

Great stay in Wbitby

We've stayed at a few places in whitby and this is definitely one of the best. The house was lovely and great to have a driveway for parking. Lots of great little touches. We didn't have a dog with us but noticed there were dog tags with contact details for the cottage as well as balls and treats and poo bags for dogs. Plus tea, coffee, sugar and milk, washing up liquid, sponges and plenty of hand soap provided, plus a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival. Great enclosed garden for kids and dogs. Lovely comfy beds and sofas. Plenty of crockery, utensils etc. Walk into town was about 20-30 minutes. We were with our toddler so went via pannett Park to break it up so didn't feel like a long walk at all. Lidl less than 5 minutes walk away which is very handy. Overall a great stay and would definitely look to rebook for our next trip to whitby.

Fantastic cottage, great location

We stayed at The Castle House for a couple of nights between Xmas and New Year, and would definitely book again. The house was cozy and warm, a great place to wander back to at the end of a long day exploring. Nice and quiet, didn’t hear much from the neighbours. We were greeted very kindly with a bottle of wine and some special homemade doggie treats!! Large Kitchen/Diner, cozy lounge, and pretty comfortable bed. Our dog loved the garden and was immediately comfortable in the lounge on a nice blanket! We didn’t meet the owners in person, but they were so friendly and helpful in the correspondence we had. The house is within 15mins walking distance of Whitby town, which is very convenient! The weather we had was brilliant, too- very lucky!! So many things provided for the dog, I’d forgotten his bowls and his towel for drying him off, but these are provided which was great!

Home from home!!

We had a fab stay at this lovely house with our 2 little pooches, what can I say.... it was really welcoming, warm and comfortable, a true home from home, so much so that I wanted to move in permanently!! The house was exceptionally clean and spacious, with everything you can think of needed for your stay and more! we loved the extra little touches like a bottle of wine for us and some treats for the dogs, The off street parking, additional loo downstairs and lovely little garden were a huge bonus, Nothing was too much trouble for the owners Nichola and Dave, they were so friendly and approachable and did everything to make sure our stay was perfect. Highly recommend Castle House and we will definitely be back, wish it was with a removal van! ;-)

Relaxing break in a stunning cottage

What an amazing place! I can highly recommend Castle House, the attention to detail and the warm welcoming feeling you get as soon as you walk through the door makes it feel like a second home. Castle House couldn’t be better placed, less than 5 minutes drive into the centre of Whitby and 2 miles from Sandsend you couldn’t ask for more. A secure back garden and dog biscuits for your pooch make it ideal for them too.

Perfect dog friendly retreat

We stayed here (2 adults, 1 teenager and a large dog) for a few nights during October half term and were really pleased with this little gem. It had recently been renovated to a very high standard, the house was immaculately clean and incredibly comfortable. There is a large off road space to park your car and although the hallway is small we managed to unpack easily. The kitchen/diner is large and bright with a view of the fully enclosed garden through the small conservatory/boot room. the downstairs loo was an added bonus too. The lounge is cosy with 2 leather sofa's and a tv - we brought our Amazon firestick with us and it worked a treat. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 large doubles and a single. The beds were super comfy and the duvets were heavenly. I loved the quirky built in wardrobes! There is a separate loo and bath room, lots of hot water and a great shower. The internet was excellent in the cottage - the teenager didn't complain once! Whitby is an easy walk from the house, maybe just over a mile but quite pleasant. The town is lovely, very dog friendly with lots of shops and cafe's. I definitely recommend the Fuzzy Dog Bakery if you have a pooch! We also spent time on the beach (I believe there are some restrictions in summer but we had full access in October) which our dog really enjoyed. You can also walk from the golf course end of the beach up to the town via a pathway (to save your feet getting wet) which is very nice. There is a lovely Lidl supermarket and a Spar (attached to a petrol station) just a few minutes walk from the cottage which was very handy (the Lidl doughnuts and croissants were especially nice). We also ate in The White House Inn which is a short walk from the cottage. It is super dog friendly with a gorgeous real fire. All in all we had a fabulous few days and I would definitely return again. The owner was really helpful and we felt that nothing was too much trouble.

Brand new accommodation

Loved our weekend stay at the Castle House. We were very privileged to be the first guests at the newly refurbished accommodation and we had a lovely stay. The beds are very comfy and the house is well equipped. We had 5 adults stay and there was ample room for a short break away. Handy having two toilets and a separate bathroom too!
